Issues from 1961 to 1989 can be viewed online from anywhere, Wanter explained. Issues from 1990 to 2018 can be accessed online only from a MidPointe Library location. No Madison yearbooks will be available on-shelf, he added.

Wanter said the Tomahawk digitization process “started about a year and a half ago” after a library patron requested to see a copy.

With the help of Madison Librarian Elaine Fultz and the Madison Local School District, the quest to digitize the yearbooks became reality.

The process of digitization took about three-and-a-half months, with an additional two weeks needed for Wanter to curate the collection. “In total, 10,612 pages – 58 books -- were scanned” by a specialty group known as Backstage Library Works, he said.

Madison’s aren’t the only yearbooks available for viewing on MidPointe’s Digital Archives.

The collection also includes the Middletown High School “Optimists.” “Optimists” from 1913 to 1989 can be viewed online from anywhere. “Optimists” from 1990 to 2013 are available for viewing online while visiting any MidPointe Library location. Several “Optimists” are available on-shelf in MidPointe Library Middletown's history-rich Ohio Room. A few copies even circulate.

Online historical collections will continue to be added. “Keep an eye out for our “Armco Publications Collection” coming soon!” Wanter said.
