Preview Ken Burns’ new country music documentary at MidPointe Library!

Leave it to the genius of filmmaker Ken Burns to pay tribute to a music genre that reflects the melting-pot that is America and stirs the souls of many Southwest Ohioans. 

His latest PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) documentary, “Country Music – A Film by Ken Burns,” will be previewed at three MidPointe Library locations beginning Wednesday, September 4. The programs are free and open to the public, said Martha Matthews, Adult Programming Coordinator. 

The complete “Country Music” series will debut on PBS beginning September 15. 

“PBS is a great supporter of libraries and anything Ken Burns does is magnificently well-crafted,” Matthews continued. “So we’re inviting the public to catch a special preview of his exciting new series. Our guests will get a chance to watch the filmmakers, go behind the scenes and enjoy exclusive clips from the films.” 

The MidPointe previews will take place:  

Wednesday, September 4, at 7 p.m. at MidPointe Library West Chester, 9363 Centre Pointe Drive, West Chester, Ohio. 

Wednesday, September 11, at 6 p.m. at MidPointe Library Middletown, 125 South Broad Street, Middletown, Ohio. 

Wednesday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m. at MidPointe Library Trenton, 200 Edgewood Drive, Trenton, Ohio. 

According to PBS, the full 8-part, 16-hour documentary series is directed and produced by Burns, written and produced by Dayton Duncan and produced by Julie Dunfey.  

The televised series will premiere Sunday, September 15, through Wednesday, September 18, and Sunday, September 22 through Wednesday, September 25. (See links below for details). 

Viewers will enjoy images of the “Grand Ole Opry” and reminisce at the sight of mega-stars like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, the Carter Family and many more who populate country music’s rich history. 

Whether its lyrics reveal a broken heart, the yearnings of romance, the love of God or one’s patriotic duty, country music touches the hearts and souls of fans everywhere.
